Deconstruction In Progress

Video

I will never tire of posting this video, so it’s your weekend music. My grandson just gave it the thumbs up and muted SpongeBob so we could rock out to it. Major announcement to follow.

It’s time for the overhaul. I wanted to have it done by now, but I lost a lot of time in November. Thanks to everyone who offered feedback on the new design this week.

Here’s the process

  1. Nuke all but a handful of the categories and start over. We’ll still have a lot of them, but they will be logical and most will be full of stuff. In other words, actually useful.
  2. Change the theme, remove the widgets I’m killing, and add the new ones.
  3. Sort out the pages.

Step one requires me to touch every post. All 646 of them. This will take a while.

We we may not be back until Wednesday or Thursday, but we will be back.

And we have new contributors to introduce.

Stay tuned, mateys!

Leonard Cohen: Sisters of Mercy

Video

We haven’t had any Leonard Cohen around here for awhile. So let’s just have some. The lyrics superimposed over the video would be annoying if they weren’t Italian. Italian is just that interesting, y’all!

Also. Extended-range classical guitars are cool. There’s one in the middle of this video.

We’re probably not as bad off as I made things out to be yesterday, but we will miss some days, and soon. Just not today.

You want to read Just Gene’O right now, unless you already read it first thing this morning. I’ve got a post over there that’s less than 300 words, so it won’t take much time. And you get another video out of the deal.

Also, world domination humor. You get that, too!

The Lull is Upon Us, With Some Thoughts on Better Blogging

Video

So. December 8. Slowdown time.

You’ll be seeing a lot less blogging here for the next few weeks. Diana and I both have a ton of offline stuff on our plates from now through the holidays. Luther’s done with his run of Walking Dead posts for now. You’ll be seeing a lot of video posts and a lot of missed days here for awhile, but we aren’t going anywhere.

If you want to know what I’m working on this month, there’s a list here. And do feel free to stop by  or chat with me on other social media. I’ll be around and will be checking my threads.

Just watching what other bloggers who have been more successful than me this year are doing, I’ll tell you. I am less concerned about posting frequency than I have been since we started. A deep archive gets you some cred, and posting often helps, but the big traffic seems to be about five things.social media

  • Search engines.
  • Sharing links.
  • Good art.
  • Reader-friendly posts.
  • Engaging with people when they show an interest.

I’m looking to have this blog posting every day next year. But honestly, those five things are so much more important than frequency, I believe we could post three times a week here over the next year and do better than we’ve done so far if we really nail them. I’ll never post just to say I posted again.

When you start to see my photos reappear, you’ll know we’re on our way back, and we may have some interesting announcements in the meantime. Do stay tuned.

Bonus Music, and a Quick Note

Video

So, we missed the comics this week because I had a crazy, crazy day at work and didn’t have time to get something up. We’re in a bit of a lull at the moment, as most of us have various offline things going on that are eating a lot of the blogging time. I intended to have a post up today in which I talk about Facebook and link to a lot of bloggers, but I did not get that done. My latest post at Just Gene’O will give you a clue as to what I am up to, even though it is mostly about Twitter.

Diana has an American Horror Story review coming, and we’ll be here this weekend.

Have a marvelous day!
