Bonus Music and Other Things: The FUTURE!

So, this is way late and I am in the mood for some Leonard Cohen. In addition to being one of the most versatile singer-songwriters I can think of, I consider him a poet of the first rank. Because he is very good at pointing out that almost everyone is playing a rigged game, through no fault of their own. He thinks that is just a part of the human condition, if I read his work correctly, and pointing it out is a worthy thing for a poet to do.

The first, and most important thing you need to know, other than my thoughts on Leonard Cohen, is that Jeremy will be back on Wednesday. Batman is a bit of a culture hero around this place, and the blog you see before you today would not exist in its current form if not for the fact that Jeremy delivered the Batman every week for almost seven months last year, which gave me the breathing room I needed to just love blogging and do all the meta-stuff. So do stop by and read Jeremy.

We will have our other features, as well, and OMG, the Walking Dead is back and so is LUTHER!

Our friend Nerd in the Brain is on a quest to spread kindness and happiness across the blogosphere, and she now has a hashtag and some badges to go along with her #ThreeThingsThursday feature.¬† Check it out! She’s good with you stealing the idea, and I will tell you. This feature includes many of the elements that have allowed the #WeekendCoffeeShare to become a thing. If you are in the market for a Thursday feature, or just enjoy spreading some positive vibes, this is for you.

I barely tweeted this weekend, and almost did not even post. Because I am helping out with a super-secret project which involves offering people an e-book that I am included in for absolutely free (it will take a while, but it will happen!) Also, some crazy-good feminism happened on Sabina’s Friday thread and that required a lot of my attention. You might enjoy scanning that thread. I recommend it.

Have a fabulous week and a world domination joke!

Weekend Music: Closing Time

Image

This is your last weekend music of 2014, and what could be better to end the year than Leonard Cohen riffing on bar culture, one-night-stands, missed opportunities, and country music (yes, he’s saying something about country music here).

We need to talk about A to Z here and about Feminist Fridays at Just Gene’O this weekend. Announcing contributors immediately after the new year. We’re almost out of time for planning and such, so we need to make the most of this next week.

Leonard Cohen: Sisters of Mercy

Video

We haven’t had any Leonard Cohen around here for awhile. So let’s just have some. The lyrics superimposed over the video would be annoying if they weren’t Italian. Italian is just that interesting, y’all!

Also. Extended-range classical guitars are cool. There’s one in the middle of this video.

We’re probably not as bad off as I made things out to be yesterday, but we will miss some days, and soon. Just not today.

You want to read Just Gene’O right now, unless you already read it first thing this morning. I’ve got a post over there that’s less than 300 words, so it won’t take much time. And you get another video out of the deal.

Also, world domination humor. You get that, too!

Weekend Music – Leonard Cohen with a fabulous band

This is truly awesome. I have no idea whether I’ll be able to resume my regular blogging schedule next week or not. I’d hoped to get back to it this week, but the time to sit down and actually blog just never materialized, so I’m not making any more promises until I have a week’s worth of posts ready to schedule. I’m pretty sure I’ll have a coffee post at Just Gene’O tomorrow, though, and Will will have a Doctor Who review here tomorrow.

Sabina questions the value of the Bechdel Test in the Feminst Friday post today. ¬†Head on over and chime in if you’re in the mood for discussion. If you’ve not checked out Victim to Charm, you should look at some of the other posts while you’re there. Sabina runs a sweet blog. You can also find her on Twitter @VictimToCharm.

And happy Talk Like A Pirate Day. ARRRR, Mateys!
