No comics today 😦
I figure that having comics every Wednesday for almost two years gets us a little leeway. I’m about to mouth off here, people. You can endure a monologue from me, or you can find yourself another blog to read. This is where we are.
So, first. We’ve not been posting as often as we would like to post lately.
Second, I haven’t been around to answer comments.
Third, this blog is absolutely not going away.
A year ago, more or less, I made this blog a political no-go zone. I am considering lifting that restriction and allowing contributors to speak their political minds on this blog.
Just so you know, this here pop culture blog is supported by a huge gaggle of feminists and other left-leaning people.
What if we decide to bring the politics back onto this blog? Slowly, carefully, and liberally? What about that?
Leave us a comment, if you have an opinion.

Keeping a pure pop-culture blog would seem to be the way to go, but then, there is always the political context of that pop-culture, isn’t there? And if the other blogs I follow by the contributors here are any indication, I’ll most likely agree with 85% of the political commentary: Not 100% because being liberal means we never walk in lockstep with anyone 😉

I am still thinking on it, Trent.
The problem is that if I do political commentary here, I have to be ok allowing everyone who contributes to also do the political commentary when it suits them. And since there’s like a dozen of us, there’s potential there for conflict.
Just something I’m thinking about.
I had good reasons for going the pure pop culture route, but I haven’t been right since I stopped doing occasional commentary on this blog.
It’s a quandry.

Including political contexts and themes in regards to the pop culture discussed would make sense, but stepping away from the pop culture to talk about politics would seem weird to me after how this blog has been establishing itself for the past years. Keeping pop culture at the core of any discussion here would make most sense to me.

Yes, I am not sure about this one at all. I think you’re right about the context.
Not sure we’ll ever be able to make a lot of strong statements here, but talking about pop culture without some reference to social & political context seems a bit silly at times. It’s like boiled peanuts without salt.

Pop culture has always had a political side, to ignore that fact seems rather limiting. But I’m also with Natacha, I would rather to see the core stay true to pop culture topics.

I’d like to point out that I’ve dipped my toe into politics at least a few times on the TWD posts and nobody’s said boo about it. 🙂
Also, this was a kinda crap week for comics anyway as far as I can tell.
