Star Wars is a huge fictional universe. Picking just one thing to talk about can be a challenge. When talking about writing semi-regular Star Wars contributions for Sourcerer, I wasn’t sure which approach to take. Then, I decided to talk about favorites! To kick start this, let’s talk about starships! Which ones are your favorites? I always have a hard time picking just one or two choices when asked such questions, so if you have five favorites or so, no problem! You will see I often name between three and five names for these features.
Here are mine:
Of course, I had to start with my beloved Falcon! I have loved it since I was first introduced to the Original Trilogy when a kid. A Millennium Falcon toy was even my first Star Wars merchandise piece!
I have always loved their design. I often picture them when I hear the Imperial March. I prefer their sleeker design to their Venator Star Destroyer ancestors’.
This one is my favorite Prequel Era ship. It suits the Naboo style so well. I find it one of the most elegant starships in the Star Wars universe.
While I enjoy several ships in SW:TOR and other Star Wars video games, the Ebon Hawk from Knights of the Old Republic I and II has won my heart years ago.
Star Wars: Rebels hooked me more than I had expected. Beside the characters and the stories, I found the Ghost to be a great smuggling type of aircraft. It goes hand in hand with my liking of the Millennium Falcon and the Ebon Hawk.
Most of these ships are associated with characters who mean a lot to me, like Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Hera Syndulla and Padmé Amidala.
What about you? Which Star Wars spaceships are your favorites?
I really need to sit down and play KOTOR. Somehow I missed those two and it’s really pretty criminal that I did.

I love these games! I recently replayed KOTOR II and liked it even more than the previous times! Hope you enjoy playing them when you can. 🙂

My best friend growing up was absolutely crazy about the Millennium Falcon, so it sticks out in my mind because it reminds me of him. But one of my favourite characters is Han Solo, so there’s that! The Starfreighter was an interesting ship. I’m sure I helped one of my friend’s sons to build one from his mountain of lego. It was complicated in any case, and I’m still not sure how we managed it! 🙂

Han Solo is such a great character! I almost lost it when I saw the Millennium Falcon in the first teaser for Episode VII! Now I wish I could have helped building this lego starship! I’d love to get some Star Wars legos one day! 😀

I love that level of excitement when you catch something on screen for the first time and it feels like you’re going to explode – you can’t beat it! Creating something with lego is hugely rewarding, I have to admit 🙂

My favorite is the Nebulon Ranger. I just love the tattered aesthetic of Tales of the Jedi. Everything feels ancient and mysterious from Ulic’s armor to Tott’s beautiful saber hilt.

I had to look this one up and I can see why the Nebulon Ranger is your favorite! I didn’t read Tales of the Jedi, so glad to learn more about them thanks to your comment!

I tend to like the ships from the Clone Wars, like the Republic Venator class Cruiser, etc. And I have some love for the Battleship Malevolence 🙂

The Malevolence is very stylish! It took me a while to get used to some of the Clone Wars ships but I love how inventive the designers are!

The yacht is my favorite for its sleekness, but also because it was what made me notice the chronology of the prequels. From my point of view, when they did the prequels they wanted them to mesh in with 1970s look of the original movie. So the first is in the early 1920s so the H-type Nubian yacht is very Art Deco. The second movie looks very late 30s (get it – verge of WW II and verge of galaxy-wide war in the movie) in the architecture and space craft. The 3rd movie is very late 1950s/ early 1960s “post modern architecture style” – the fleet of ships at the beginning look exactly like skyscrapers from that era, which are ugly. The Millennium Falcon looks like GTO from the 60s that had been totaled then “chopped” in the 70s, held together with duct tape and bondo.

I remember reading about Art Deco inspiration for the prequel and the older styles they used. They had a beautiful progression that led to the end of Episode III. The yacht has been a favorite in this era since I first saw it on screen!

Oooh the Ebon Hawk! I also always liked the Lambda-class Imperial shuttles with the weird tri-wings. But first and foremost, I’m a fan of the starfighters. I would love to fly an X-wing!

The Lambda-class shuttles are beautiful! I love their designs too. It’s funny because when I made this post, I didn’t realize how I’m more into larger crafts than starfighters, though I love them too! 🙂

Do AT-ATs count as ships? Because those are totally my favorite. That and the A- and Y-Wings. Underused but awesome.

Yeah. I love those A- and Y-Wings. Especially in the old X-Wing simulator game (remember that one?)

Also awesome, since you mentioned ground transport: Speeder bikes. I wanted one so bad after I saw Return of the Jedi.

I hope to make a favorite ground transport post this summer. 😉 Agreed on speeder bikes though my heart belongs to AT-AT!

Also good for list posts: Weapons. There may be enough lightsaber variations at this point to do a post just on those. Then there are all the various blasters and um . . . “BECAUSE HE’S HOLDING A THERMAL DETONATOR!” hee hee.

It is on my list! 😉 I have like 5 or 6 ideas for other posts like this one!

These types of posts are awesome, and I think they do as much good as anything else. They’re quick to read, fun, and easy to respond to. They’ll work. This thread tells me so.

The AT-AT don’t count because I hope to make a Favorite Terrestrial Craft thread this summer. 😉 I love the B-Wings more than the A ones, but I wish they had used the Y ones much more!

The B-Wings are awesome. So much shield. So much firepower. My love of the A-Wings is about the speed and maneuverability they bring. It takes a LOT of skill, both with the flying and with the strategic use of low-powered weapons, to survive three engagements in an A-Wing, is how I remember them.
And yar. Everything’s better with Y-Wings.

Slave One is a popular ship! I liked how the bounty hunter’s ship in SW:TOR had a similar design.
